Recertification Process
    When individuals became NSTP certified, they were informed that certification was valid for 24 months. This was due to ever changing technology and policy changes. However, the SBCA realized that for many installers, the original certification meant a day off of work and in many instances a long drive. Since these certified installers attended an official training and have passed the examination within a proctored environment, the SBCA decided that recertification would be available in an online format. The online testing only applies to those who are recertifying; those new to the industry or not currently certified must attend a session with a certified trainer and pass the examination with an 85% or better.  If you have a Satellite Fundamentals and a MDU/SMATV Essentials certification number, you only have to keep your MDU/SMATV number current.

    The recertification process consists of 2 parts: review and test. The cost of the online test is $50.00 for active SBCA members (membership is only for those companies who pay annual dues to SBCA, typically $320/year or more, being certified does not mean you are a member) and $75.00 for non-members.  After purchasing the recertification you will receive two emails.  The first will confirm your order is being processed.  The second will contain your user name and password, which can take between 48 and 72 hours.  This will provide access to both the review materials and the exam.  You will not have access to the examination or review materials until your name is submitted into the database.  It is strongly recommended that you study the materials because this test is significantly more difficult than the previous versions of the examination. Also, there is NO FREE RETAKE. If you fail the recertification, you will have to wait 10 days to take it over at full price - so be prepared. No refunds will be given if it has been more than a month since the recertification was originally purchased.

   Once you begin the examination, you have one hour to complete all questions. If you do not finish within one hour, your test will be graded from where you stopped, you must achieve a score of 85% to pass the exam.  Your exam results will be available immediately after the test and upon passing, you will be able to print a certificate online within 72 hours of finishing the exam.

   There is no need to purchase a training manual.  If you do not have a computer, many local libraries have computers which you may use for the examination.
