DIRECTV D2 Advantage

The objective of this online course is to educate students on the D2 Advantage single wire distribution system for MDU applications.  The course covers the entire process of system equipment, design, installation, and troubleshooting.  Upon completion of this course students should be able to:

  • Identify all of the components of the D2 Advantage distribution system
  • Understand the differences between the D2 Advantage distribution system and standard satellite distribution system
  • Explain the importance of using high frequency components
  • Read system design specifications for D2 Advantage technology
  • Properly install D2 Advantage distribution for both satellite and off-air reception
  • Balance the system to ensure proper operation
  • Effectively troubleshoot D2 Advantage systems

It is recommended that technicians attempting this certification already hold SBCA certifications at the Satellite Fundamentals and MDU/SMATV Essentials levels.  Additionally techs should have:

  • Thorough understanding of RF distribution
  • Ability to calculate specific equations regarding signal loss
  • Understand the principles of OHM's Law
  • Understand the principle of Watt's Law
  • Understand the principles of Volt's Law
  • Ability to perform BTU calculation
  • Understanding of the current NEC code
  • Knowledge of all relevant SCTE symbols
  • Understanding of cable attenuation
  • Knowledge of frequency guides

  Online:
  • Cost: $200
  • Duration: Approximately 200 pages, requiring 10 - 20 hours study.
  • Delivery: Animated &  interactive HTML/Flash, self-paced, online format (Note: Flash Player version 9 is required).

Upon registering you will receive a login and password.

Students will have 60 days to complete the online lessons and exam.  In order to pass the course, you must view all the pages in all the lessons, pass all lesson quizzes, and pass the final exam.  Students who fail the exam may request 1 free retake from sbcasupport@satprof.com

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive their certification materials in approximately 2 -3 weeks.

  • Cost: $299
  • 1 Day Course, with test given at the end of the day
  • An 85% or better is needed to pass
  • 1 Free retake of the test is available should the tech not pass.
