Commercial Program Information

Participants for this level must meet and be certified in all of the requirements for Small Dish Installer and Multiple Satellite Dish Installer, plus those outlined in the following steps below. A higher level of skill and experience is also expected with this level.

The objective is to be able to design systems using either L-band or SMATV in commercial settings such as bars, restaurants or Multiple Dwelling Units (MDU). The participant should be able to:

  • Read and interpret local and national codes relating to the installation of satellite systems.

  • Correctly select equipment and programming that will comply with all of the applicable codes, regulations, and licensing.

  • Calculate and measure system loss and amplification throughout the entire distribution system in order to ensure adequate signal at every drop.

  • Understand the concepts of a head end system including modulation, amplification, and distribution.

  • Analyze system design, including system architecture, for correct installation techniques and procedures.




The objective is to be able to review installation plans for good design and performance. The participant should be able to:

  • Review system design for compliance with all NEC and local codes and regulations.

  • Analyze installation designs and determine if objectives will be met.

  • Make suggestions for improvements that will increase customer satisfaction and system reliability.

  • Confirm site survey meets requirements for distribution system.


 

The objective is to be able to solve problems related to installation and equipment. The participant should be able to:

  • Troubleshoot problems related to improper installation and/or equipment malfunction.

  • Understand the functions of all of the components in satellite system.

  • Use test equipment to determine the nature of a problem and then propose an acceptable solution.

  • Expediently correct problems to originate or restore satisfactory system performance.


 

 


The objective is to provide leadership to less experienced installers in areas relating to installation.  The participant should be able to:

  • Serve as a mentor to new non-certified installers.

  • Supervise, assist, and approve installations done by non-certified installers.

  • Demonstrate the correct methods for performing all tasks related to installation.

  • Emphasize safety procedures.
